Lightweight no-signup file and text sharing using a 4-digit code with automatic expiry via MongoDB TTL indexes — share-to-retrieve in under 3 seconds.

Sharing files and text snippets between devices usually requires an account, a login, or a heavy upload process. For quick one-off transfers — sending a note from phone to laptop, sharing a config file with a teammate — frictionless sharing without signup is the goal.
Built a minimal platform with no authentication required. Generate a 4-digit code, share it, and the recipient retrieves the content. MongoDB TTL indexes automatically delete data after expiry or single retrieval.
Balancing convenience with security. No-signup means no identity verification, but the data must still be protected. Enforced single-access deletion — after the recipient retrieves the content once, it is permanently deleted. Combined with HTTPS and short-lived TTLs, the risk window is minimal.
Every project comes with tradeoffs. If I were to rebuild this today, I would invest more time in automated testing early in the cycle — catching edge cases in payment webhooks and encryption boundaries before they reach production. The architecture decisions held up well, but the test coverage should have matched the complexity from day one.
